The Valiant Parent shares our founder’s perspective from raising two daughters through competitive youth sports — addressing the questions, challenges and decisions sports families face along the way.

OUR FAMILY'S SPORTS JOURNEY

A PARENT'S PERSPECTIVE

As sports becomes more structured, it can be easy to lose sight of the freedom that drew children to play in the first place.

Playing like you’re 10 is an invitation to remember curiosity, joy, and the simple pleasure of moving with friends. It does not mean children cannot work hard or care deeply.

Parents can protect that spirit by leaving room for play and keeping the larger journey in perspective.

What sports parents should know

  • Play can remain important even as competition increases.
  • Freedom and joy support a child’s relationship with sport.
  • Parents can help keep the long view when the environment feels intense.

When a child’s physical or emotional well-being is a concern, parents should seek guidance from an appropriate qualified professional.
